Is Your Tongue Tied?

The staff of Creating a Sustainable You, including myself, was treated to a fascinating presentation today from Dr. Loeta Robles and her dental hygienist Brooke from My Chico Dentist about Myofunctional Therapy. This treatment focuses on issues that arise from having tethered tissues in the mouth, such as tongue ties.

They educated us about how restrictions in the fascial structures in the mouth contribute to issues throughout the body, including breathing problems, headaches, shoulder and neck pain, and poor posture. Breathing problems include snoring and sleep apnea, which can significantly impact sleep quality. Also, infants with tongue ties can have difficulty with breastfeeding and speech development.

Dr. Robles performs corrective surgery using a carbon dioxide laser, and Brooke provides patients with a program of customized exercises to strengthen and train the tongue and jaw muscles. These exercises can restore proper breathing, reduce teeth grinding and jaw clenching, and improve sleep.

We are looking forward to a productive partnership with My Chico Dentist. Some of our clients most likely have issues with their mouths that they’re unaware of. And Dr. Robles’s patients will be able to benefit from massage therapy from our skilled team.
